On 25 May 2024, Law To Impact HUB hosted the closing event of the FemPower — Gender Equality in the Clean Energy Transition project, co-funded by the European Union and coordinated in Greece by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
FemPower is a cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary collaboration between partners from 7 EU member states, working in the fields of energy transition, gender equality and STEAM education. The project starts from a reality that is often overlooked: women’s participation rates remain low in decision-making positions, academic chairs and companies in the energy sector, resulting in policies that fail to reflect the needs and perspectives of the whole of society.
The evening opened with an interactive workshop titled “Designing an Equal and Active Community”, supported by representatives of the Heinrich Böll Foundation, Democritus University of Thrace and P2P Lab. Ioanna-Mirto Chatzigeorgiou from AUTH then presented the results and impact of the project across university, secondary education and society at large. Ioanna Angelaki from ELECTRA Energy Cooperative spoke about energy communities as a tool for equal and active participation in the energy sector, drawing on successful examples from Greece and the benefits at a social, economic and environmental level. The evening closed with networking and open discussion.
FemPower brought to light something that is often overlooked: the clean energy transition cannot be just if it is not also gender equal.
