Women’s Visibility in Arts and Culture: Takeaways from the WHEN THESS Community Meetup

On Thursday 22 October, the Law to Impact Hub at Olympou 17 hosted the monthly meetup of the WHEN THESS Community. October’s theme was the visibility of women in arts and culture, a conversation that reached beyond artistic creation and into something more personal: how gender bias shapes our professional choices.

Women are present in every corner of cultural life. They create, teach, curate, organise and support. Yet when we look at whose names appear on the posters, whose work gets bought and who holds leadership roles, the picture changes.

The discussion shed light on the visible forms of discrimination as well as the quieter ones hidden behind so called “personal choices”: the doors that open more slowly, the work that goes unseen, the networks that do not automatically include us.

Our speakers Eftychia Gousiou, Anthi Thanou, Fani Bountouroglou, Kalliopi Passia and Stella Tsiarvoula shared experience, insight and honest reflections from different fields of culture. The conversation was moderated with care and substance by Dimitra Gounari.

What stays with us most is the energy in the room. Visibility is built when we speak up in public, when we back each other and when we create spaces where our voices are heard.

A warm thank you to our speakers, our moderator and everyone who joined us. We look forward to seeing you at the next WHEN THESS Community meetup in November.
